​Route via Ensenada (From Puerto Montt): Approximately 4–5 hours

From “El Tepual” Airport, head towards Puerto Varas (22 km, approximately 30 minutes), taking Route 226 and then “Camino a Las Lomas” (Route V-590) until it connects with Route V-500. From Puerto Varas, continue along Route 225 towards Ensenada (45 km, approximately 45 minutes).

In Ensenada, take Route V-69 towards Cochamó and Río Puelo (48 km, approximately 45 minutes). After passing through the town of Cochamó, continue for 5 km on paved road and then 20 km on gravel road (currently with partial paving works) until you cross the bridge over the Puelo River. From there, continue for another 6 km until you reach the turnoff on the left, marked by a fisherman statue.

Continue for 11 km along this paved road (Route V-721, approximately 10 minutes) until you reach Lake Tagua Tagua (“Puerto Canelo”). There, you must take the ferry that crosses the lake, a journey that takes approximately 45 minutes and leaves you at “Puerto Maldonado”. Boarding the ferry is on a first-come, first-served basis, so once you arrive at the port, you must park in the line of cars that forms. The ferry crosses the lake at scheduled times, which are published in advance on the Transportes Puelche website: https://transportespuelche.cl/lago-tagua-tagua/.

Finally, from “Puerto Maldonado”, drive for approximately 45 minutes (39 km on gravel road) towards Llanada Grande. As a final reference, shortly before arriving, you will cross an avenue of trees, at the end of which, on the right-hand side, you will see the entrance to “El Remanso”.

Route via Puerto Montt (via the Caleta La Arena ferry, Route 7): Approximately 5–6 hours

The second alternative follows the southern coast of the Reloncaví Sound. From El Tepual Airport, drive along Route V-60 towards Puerto Montt (11 km, approximately 30 minutes). From Puerto Montt, take Route 7 towards the Carretera Austral until you reach “Caleta La Arena” (44 km, approximately 50 minutes). There, you must take the ferry across the Reloncaví Sound. The crossing takes approximately 45 minutes and leaves you at “Caleta Puelche”. This ferry crosses the sound every 15 minutes, so you should not have to wait long to board once you arrive.

From “Caleta Puelche”, continue your journey to Puerto Canelo (50 km, approximately 65 minutes). Drive along Route 7 for only 500 meters, then make a sharp left turn onto Route V-69. Continue along this gravel road for approximately 39 km. You will pass through the town of Río Puelo, from where it is another 2 km to the turnoff on the right, which continues onto Route V-721. Continue for 11 km (approximately 10 minutes) along this paved road until you reach Lake Tagua Tagua (“Puerto Canelo”).

At Lake Tagua Tagua, you must take the ferry across the lake. The crossing takes approximately 45 minutes and leaves you at “Puerto Maldonado”.
